Educational Psychology
Understanding how your child learns — and how to help.
Educational psychology focuses on how children and young people learn, and on removing the barriers that get in the way. Our educational psychologists provide assessments and guidance for learners, families and schools.
How we can help
- Psychoeducational assessment for learning difficulties
- School placement and readiness guidance
- Exam concession assessments
- Support planning with schools and families
Assessment with a purpose
Our assessments do more than describe difficulties — they lead to practical, realistic recommendations that schools and families can act on. Where appropriate we provide reports for exam boards and schools.
What to expect
- 1A consultation to understand the learner’s history and current concerns.
- 2A structured psychoeducational assessment using recognised tools.
- 3A written report with clear, actionable recommendations and a feedback session.

Medical aid
Psychologists offering this service bill BonVie, First Mutual, Maisha, PSMAS. Whether an assessment is covered depends on your plan — it usually comes out of an annual mental-health benefit rather than the hospital benefit, so check with your society before booking. We can provide an invoice either way.
Follow-up therapy and review appointments are charged separately at the psychologist's usual session rate. Fees are quoted in US dollars.

How much does an educational assessment cost in Zimbabwe?+
A psychoeducational assessment, an exam concession assessment and a school placement assessment are each US$200. The fee covers the consultation and history, the assessment itself, the written report — including reports prepared for exam boards or schools — and a feedback session. Ongoing support sessions are charged separately.
Does medical aid cover an educational assessment?+
Some of our psychologists bill medical aid, but educational and psychoeducational assessments are among the least consistently covered — many societies treat them as an educational rather than a medical expense. Check with your society before booking, and ask your school whether it contributes: some schools fund concession assessments for their own pupils. We can provide an invoice either way.
What is an exam concession assessment?+
It is an assessment that determines whether a student qualifies for accommodations in exams (such as extra time), and provides the documentation exam boards require.
Do you work with schools directly?+
Yes. With your consent we liaise with schools to share findings and support the implementation of recommendations.
